Bits & Pieces Sunday 3-1-2020

There were 245 in church today and cookies afterward. Thank you for the cookies today. There is a church board meeting Wednesday at 10:00 am and anyone is invited to come. Pete Vos stood up and thank everyone for their prayers and cards. Three people are in the hospital and need your prayers. Richard Holschlad, Linda VanWyhe, and Bill Kritta. We need to get the prayer wheel going for these three and for the names on the prayer board.

Vally Eckert wants to send out a Big thank you for arranging the catamaran boat outing at Padre island...Was so much fun...thank you

Rose Marcelin is new to Trophy Gardens this year. We are renting for 3 months, checking out Texas looking for a mobile to buy. We are young and newly retired. We very much enjoyed our catamaran adventure on Feb. 23rd. It was a good way to meet new people in the park. The food was excellent, the music was great, and the ride was fun. It was also nice that the park provides transportation. The whole tour ran smoothly from beginning to end. I am sure it is these fun things like this and the friendly people that make everyone want to join the Trophy Gardens family! Thank you,

Twenty-nine players showed up on a very brisk Wednesday evening, February 26th to play Hoss Collar. There were quite a few high scoring games and Karl Pettersen took 1st Place with a whopping 723 points, which puts him in the “700 Club”, along with ten others with Wayne Bach who so far, leads with the highest score of 777 points he made a couple of years back. 2nd Place goes to Dean Fox who made a devilish score of 666 points and Harry Swenson came in 3rd with 644 points. We have four more Wednesdays for Hoss Collar with “hosts” Dan and Linda Lang.  Anyone can organize a Hoss Collar or Regular Shuffle event for any other day or night other than the scheduled Wednesday night play and the regularly MTF morning regular shuffle events. All the instructions concerning Hoss Collar and Regular Shuffleboard are located on the outside of the cabinet inside the shed. Just be sure to wax the discs after you use them, by doing so you protect the discs and the very expensive courts. You can borrow the “washers” needed or make up your own. See you Wednesday night by 6:15PM for Hoss Collar (weather permitting).  Bring a ONE DOLLAR BILL per person. Any questions contact Dan or Linda Lang

Our annual Wilder Shuffleboard Tournament was held last Friday and Saturday, February 28th and 29th.  The weather was absolutely beautiful! We had 58 participants from Tropic Star, Texas Trails, Tip O’ Texas and of course Trophy Gardens come to Trophy to play. We were expecting 60 but three had to drop out due to illness, but Carey Zoeteman, who was going to wax the discs for us stepped up and volunteered to fill in one of the last-minute vacancies. Twenty players had to travel to Alamo Rose to play two games on their courts as we can only handle 40 here at TG. Many thanks go to Karon Green and her kitchen volunteers for keeping the food ready while those at Alamo Rose were somewhat late in getting back.  We really appreciate all her efforts and hard work as well as J.D. getting the Brats and Burgers grilled.  The lunch was delicious and we heard many good comments about the food.

The winners were: Willie Comstock, of Tropic Star, took 1st Place Main, Willie’s father, Tony Comstock, also of Tropic Star, came in 2nd Main after a hard-fought battle with his son. 3rd Place was won by Leon Morisette, also of Tropic Star and 4th Place was won by Melvin Scott of Texas Trails. 1st Place Consolation was won by Bob Bouse, of Texas Trails; 2nd Place Consolation was won by Terry Beckley of Texas Trails; 3rd Place Consolation was won by our own TED EVANS and 4th Place Consolation went to Murray Garrett of Texas Trails. Tropic Star had no participants in the last few years and they came with thirteen players this time.  Now Tropic Star gets possession of the beautiful Traveling Trophy for a year that has been held by Texas Trails the last three years.  Maybe next year Trophy Gardens can get our name on it, we have some really great players and we should be able to get it done. Many thanks to all those who played and helped with waxing, refereeing, cleaning the courts and we loved having people just come out and watch.      Dan and Linda Lang

That is all for today
