Bits and Pieces

Bits and Pieces and Bev MC:

So here we go again....  another Sunday at the pool hall and enjoying the Mixed Doubles games.    We only have about 48 days till the first day of Spring...  I think this awful cool weather has affected our playing ability --- I have to have that excuse..  When I got to the pool hall there was a player there that told me his wife was under the weather and he had called other players and not one could make it...  So the timing just happened to be right and Donna & Elmer H. rode by on their bikes --  there was our player...  Thanks, Donna for filling in, and thanks Elmer for agreeing to let her help us out...  So I am warning you that there are a lot of windows in the pool hall so you cannot get by without being seen...  And now back to business...

We had only 8 teams that played today and we each played seven games.    There was one team that won 6 of the seven played and that was Arja Titto & Butch Brooker...    Two of the teams won 5 of their games and they are Janet Yeley & Alex Stinson and team Barb Brooker and Paul Kelleher. One team won 4 of their games and this was team Bev McEnaney & Greg Donhaniuk.   I might add for what it is worth my partner and I beat the number one team....  go figure....and now to step up and add that we got beat by the team that won the least number of games.....  again go figure...    Through all of this we had a good time and even had cookies ---  come join in on the fun ---   The sign-up sheet is up for next Sunday...

***For those who were in church Sunday Pastor Randy started to tell us a story. If you want to read “The Rest Of The Story” concerning Jairus and his daughter, the scripture was Luke chapter 8:41-56.

From the Park Meeting: We have 538 people on 296 sites and 95 pets.

The phone number for the Alamo police is 956-787-1454. Lynn asked that you put the number in your phone so you have it. Use the police number instead of 911 if there is a death in the residence.

If you are interested in singing come to Choir Practice at 9:00 a m in the hall on this Saturday morning.

There is going to be a Sunday Service that is Cowboy-like. Wear your casual clothes and join us The sermon is “Make A Joyful Noise”

The last dates for pictures for your free picture taken for a free picture directory is February 1st & 2nd . It is important to be in the picture directory as that is a referance I and others use to know who is in the park. I use it so I spell names right and addresses.

Jam session Thursday on Lot 457 weather permitting. For more contact Grace Muller.

There is a Potato Bake on February 8th. Your potato will be delivered to you. You chose what you want on your potato. Contact Lynn Massingill for your ticket. $8.00.

I am going to attempt to write something constructive about our day of pool on this rainy cold Sunday afternoon.   Maybe a few of us pool players should have spent the afternoon in that soft Lazy Boy under a nice warm blanket,  The day started out with a call that a player wanted to play in the mixed doubles but couldn't find a partner for her and then when we did find one she couldn't make it... Another team called and had to cancel as he was not feeling the best --- so hope that we all can be together one of these first Sundays.....
We started our pool games with a moment of silence and prayer for our friend who passed this morning so sorry Jan H. for your loss.
We ended up with nine teams and each team played eight games...  The top two teams were Gayle Steinbeck & Butch Brooker and Barb Brooker & Lorne Evans each winning six games of the eight played...Team Barb Utech & Paul Kelleher won five games.  Teams Claudette Hogenson  & Bob Nance - Team Lola Wolf & Greg Dowhaniuk and team Sally Kelleher & Don Wolf won four games...
It was the usual fun time.  Come join us -  the sign-up sheet is up for next Sunday...   Thanks to Sally K. for finishing up with the score sheets as I had another engagement

On Monday, January 17th twenty-seven players showed up for Hoss Collar. Karl Pettersen won 1st Place with 549 points; Les McKinney won 2nd Place with 526 points and Bob Davis won 3rd Place with 508 points.  Bring a one-dollar bill(no coins please) Come and play, meet new friends, and get some exercise and fresh air. Be there by 6:30PM on both Monday and Wednesday nights.

On Wednesday, January 19th forty-four players showed up for Hoss Collar. Everyone seemed aware that an impending cold front was coming and we were all destined to curtail our outdoor activities for a few days. Hoss Collar is a good way to get fresh air and non-strenuous exercise while meeting new friends.  We had several new players and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Moe LaFavre won 1st Place with 652 points; Brent McKee won 2nd Place with 595 points and Karl Pettersen won 3rd Place with 560 points. Team members and courts are chosen by random draw. Come and play it is so easy to learn.  We play a more challenging game of shuffleboard on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings starting at 9:00AM. Bring $.30 cents for 3 games of fun.  Random draw and very easy to learn as well while getting your Vitamin D.

My 2 cents

Betsie Brown has been letting Trophy-connected people know what is happening in Trophy Gardens for a very long time. It takes dedication to keep it going. As someone who has kept a few blogs going for years, I know firsthand about this. So please help Betsie out by sending your name and email address to her at brownfarm@juno.com. You too will then know what is going on with us. You may be very surprised by how useful it can be.

Thank You,

Barbara Brooker

Order the tests

I decided to find out how difficult it would be to order tests now that they are available. Much to my surprise, it was not difficult at all. So get to ordering friends and family. It is better to know than not know.  If you have a cold it might not be 'just a cold'.

**************************************************************The residents of Trophy Gardens Resort have a history of bringing blessings to many people in the Rio Grande Valley that are in need. As a means of continuing that giving spirit, a missions effort has been formed to give all the people within the park an opportunity to help some of the people outside the park.

This ministry, under the auspices of the Trophy Gardens resort Church Board, will conduct activities that will raise mission money to be shared with area ministries that work to support those in need.

The first activity will be a Potato Bake on Tuesday, February 8th, which will provide a baked potato with your choice of toppings delivered to your residence from 4:30-5:30 pm. All for $8.00. As a bonus, a cookie will also be provided.

Another Sunday enjoying the Mixed Doubles pool tournament...  The day started off with a Happy Birthday wish to Sally Kelleher---  someone said she may be at least 39 ???        This Sunday we played with only ten teams... Some had to cancel because of health and others because of conflicting events happening...

The pool hall seemed quieter than usual - do you suppose those other two teams that couldn't make it were the noisy ones?   It was a fun time with lots of groans when the ball didn't do what they thought it should...

We played only nine games today and the top team was Arja T. and Lonnie Hull with 7 wins.  Next in line with 6 wins were Barb Utech & Jake Jacobson...  There were four teams that won 5 of the nine played and they are teams Lynn LaFarve & Greg Dowhaniuk,  team Connie Gillean & Paul Kelleher,  team Betsie Brown & Kinley Paulsen, and team Mikey Patrick & Lorne Evans...

The sign-up sheet is up for next Sunday ---- come to have a good time on a quiet Sunday afternoon.

Here it is another Sunday only this one has cold north winds blowing and the temps have dropped 30 degrees from yesterday... So it was the perfect time to spend in the warm pool hall... well it was perfect for some of us... This time we changed up a little and had the sign partners be game partners --- so that meant a whole bunch of husbands and wives were partners... I think it all went pretty good-- but not sure of it...
We had 12 teams sign up and each team played 11 games...   The top team today was Barb Utech & Lorne Evans winning 10 of the 12 played... Team Renie & Alex Stinson winning 8 games... Team Bev McEnaney & Cully Ertel won 7 games... There were four teams that won 5 of the games played and five teams won 4 games... Just for what it is worth my team beat the top team --- go figure...
It seems that a few of us players felt like the light switch needed to be turned on and it just wouldn't go on today for some reason... I guess they can call that a slump...
The sign-up sheet is up for next Sunday.. Come join in on the fun..... Our start time is 1:00...

Take care!!

Murry Hunter is in the Heart Hospital and will have surgery on Monday. Let's get the prayer spinning for Murry.

My sincere thanks to all my great Trophy friends who all came to my rescue during this time  The cards and phone calls were so many to let me know you cared. Thanks to Palms, Fran, and Jolly for notifying all the old North 40 Gang who no longer can come to Trophy. Yes, each and every one called and we cried and laughed at the fun we had for 23 years in Trophy. As you know Trophy was my Happy Place. I love you all and treasure your friendships. Yes, Guy will be missed. Shirlene Cable.
