From the Pool Hall

Wow, this month is flying fast...  The next Mixed Doubles pool games are the 27th of February...   Some of the players have told me already that they will be gone soon -- so will have to find more players...  In fact, one pool player told me he had to leave the park right after the banquet on March 9th.  Nothing like cutting it close...  It has been a lot of fun and I have heard many excuses as to why the ball just doesn't go in the pocket and have probably made the same excuses myself...   One comment one of our players makes is he uses the word "Focus" and to always take "THE DUCK"...  that duck is probably hanging halfway into the pocket...  Won't mention names at this time...

This Sunday we had 11 teams playing pool and each team played 10 games.  Our top team this week was Mikie Patrick & Butch Brooker winning seven games... Bet Butch took the Ducks.. .  There were five teams that won six games and they are teams--    Sally Kelleher & Keny Patrick ---Lola Wulf & Lonnie Hull -  Arja Titto & Don Wulf  - Barb Jacobson & Moe Lafarve -- Janet Yeley & Lorne Evans.    There were three teams that won five games and they are Barb Brooker & Greg Donhaniuk  --- Bev McEnaney & Jake Jacobson and team Lynn Lafarve & Don Riley...
This Sunday we had a new player with us- Dale Zhart...  Thanks, Dale for joining us, and hope you come back and enjoy another Sunday afternoon with us...
Monday the 21st. we were to have the Memorial service for our deceased pool players and it was canceled because of the buildings all being shut down because of covid...  I will post when we can reschedule this event.
Banquet tickets are available at the activity office - $10.   we are having a great dinner... come join us on March 9th. social time is at 4:00 and dinner at 5:00...
Pool Hall Babe, Bev McEnaney.

 Bits & Pieces

Saturday 2-19-2022
***Found on the street a patio cushion, brown with black pattern. Can be picked up at lot 585.
***Entertainment Sunday evening is Dave & Daphne!! The show starts at 7:00 pm with the doors opening at 6:00. The concession stand will be open too.
***Monday will be the Memorial in the Pool Hall for those that have passed since last year. Beginning the hanging of the badges is at 3:00 pm.
***Marsha Schmidt, head of the 1st Responders in Trophy, told us that Trophy is one of a few parks that have 1st responders anymore. She said they had 14 calls during the summer and have had 38 calls this season. If you need help she said to call the 1st responders 1st and then call 911 and tell them, Alamo. The 1st responders will send someone to the gate to wait for an ambulance and lead them to where they need to go. It is important that you call the 1st responders first because 911 will keep you on the phone for a while.
Monday, February 14th the weather was a little bit brisk but 27 participants showed up to play Hoss Collar. Karl Pettersen won 1st Place with 703 points, Les McKinney came in 2nd Place with 652 points, and a new player, Harold Lamb came in 3rd Place with 612 points. Bring a one-dollar bill (no coins please) and be ready to have a very pleasant evening. We start at 6:30PM and three games are played each evening with a random draw held prior to each game. Hoss Collar is so easy to learn and you will be playing like a pro in no time.
Wednesday, February 16th the wind was blowing horribly but we had 36 participants who were ready to play. The moon was full and it was a beautiful night and we ignored the wind. Chuck Hull came in 1st Place with 696 points; Ron Puls won 2nd Place with 649 points and Les McKinney came in 3rd Place with 641 points. We play each Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6:30PM and Monday’s weather forecast is 84 degrees with a little bit of a breeze so come on and play and get some light exercise.
We play regular shuffleboard on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:00AM. Regular shuffleboard is more about strategy than Hoss Collar and it is more directly competitive than Hoss Collar, but don’t be scared, it is only a game and lots of fun. Bring $.30 cents and play three games and all team members and opponents are chosen by random draw. Come and get your exercise and lots of Vitamin D while also meeting new friends. You will be glad you did.

Trophy Gardens International Fellowship

"Blessings To You"

2022 Spring Missions Report

Blessings To You is the name of the Trophy Gardens RV Resort church mission effort. It is open to everyone in our park who would like to be involved. If you would like to participate, contact Pastor Randy Parks at Lot #616 on Classic.

This program began in January of 2022 as a means of continuing previous efforts to share a Christian ministry to people in Alamo, the Rio Grande Valley, and across the river into Mexico.

The $2,700.00 to be distributed in this report does not include the $1,670.00 raised during the February 2022 Potato Bake. That money will be distributed during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons of 2022.

As part of the mission ministry of Trophy Garden International Fellowship, the church board has voted to support five specific ministries for the 2022 spring season.

1-CHILDRENS HAVEN INTERNATIONAL

Children's Haven International provides home and refuge to over 50 needy children from broken, abusive, or impoverished families in Reynosa. The children usually range in age from 1 to 18.

During the Sunday morning service, February 20, 2022, Betsy Chacon from Children's Haven will be making a video presentation regarding their ministry. The church will be presenting a check for $1,000.00 to the ministry.

2-WOMEN TOGETHER / Mujeres Unidas

Women Together is a non-profit organization established in 1978 to provide a safe haven to victims of family violence and their children. The local office is in McAllen, Texas.

During the Sunday morning service, March 13, 2022, Nelda Hernandez will be at church to discuss the ministry provided by their organization. The church will be presenting a check for $500.00 to the ministry.

3-GIDEONS INTERNATIONAL

Gideons International was founded in 1899 in Janesville, Wisconsin. Gideon members currently distribute over 70 million Bibles annually, and on average, more than two copies of the Bible per second.

Sunday, February 27, 2022, LeRoy Spilde will share the mission of Gideons during our church service. The church will be presenting a check for $200.00 to the ministry.

4-ALAMO COMMUNITY CHURCHÂ SENIORS FOOD DISTRIBUTION

900 E. Bowie Ave, Alamo Texas

This food distribution service is organized by the Alamo Community Church and supports people in the Alamo area. The church board voted to support this ministry with a check for $500.00.

5-MINISTERIO PUERTA DEL CIELO (THE DOOR OF HEAVEN)

1412 S. Tower Road, Alamo Texas

This ministry is a local, Spanish-speaking church that provides the saving message of Jesus on both sides of the Rio Grande.

During the Sunday morning service, March 6, 2022, Jania Cardenas Nava will share a video presentation regarding the ministry of this Hispanic fellowship. The church will be presenting a check of $500.00 to this ministry

Hoss Collar results for Monday, February 7th, were as follows:  It was a very brisk evening but 25 hardy and physically fit participants were up to the challenge. Jim Voth came in 1st Place with 690 points; Gary DeRosier came in 2nd Place with 630 points and Karl Pettersen came in 3rd Place with 612 points.

Hoss Collar results for Wednesday, February 9th were as follows:  It was an absolutely beautiful night with just a small, but a little bit chilly breeze hanging around court #6. There were 41 of us playing and we had lots of excitement when a cottontail rabbit decided to race across Titleist and with a flying leap he jumped onto court #6 and then raced across courts 7, 8, 9, and 10 all while we were yelling and the discs were flying.  He wasn’t hit and he ran around between the shuffleboard shack and the Sunrise Room and out of sight. His little heart was probably pumping pretty fast. Maybe he was late for dinner, who knows.  Dale Husted won 1st Place with 585 points; Marlys Timm won 2nd Place with 569 points and Larry Clintsman won 3rd Place with 561 points. Come and play on Monday and Wednesday evenings; we start at 6:30PM. Bring a one-dollar bill (no change please) and be ready to have some fun. Hoss Collar is very easy to learn, it takes about 5 seconds and you are playing like a pro. We also play regular Shuffleboard on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:00AM.  This is easy to play as well.  Bring $.30 and be ready to have a lot of fun, with mild exercise and Vitamin D thrown in.  All games are random draws so you never know who you’ll be playing with or against.

Lots of thanks go to those guys who came and cleaned the courts Thursday afternoon, they sure needed it.  Karl Petersen, Larry Clintsman, Gary DeRosier, Brent McKee, Jim Voth, Dan Lang, and Les McKinney. I hope I didn’t leave anyone out. The courts were really nice to play on Friday morning.

From Pastor Randy: Choir Practice is 8:30 am Sunday morning and Worship is 9:30 am Sunday with Fellowship to follow. *** Flag Sunday will be February 27th. There will be a sign-up sheet to carry the flag for your State or Province on the church board on the South wall.

The Busy Bees Veteran's Appreciation Lunch on Thursday, February 10th starts at 11:30 am. Be sure to have your ticket. This is a Ham dinner.

The Military sew is in the hall at 9:00 on Friday. They can use any help doing jobs other than sewing.

The 2nd Friday is PIZZA Night!! 4:00 pm at Peter Piper Pizza.

If you want to have the Secret Valentines delivered to someone on the 14th, See Stephanie. They cost $2.00.

What can I say about another fun day in the pool hall when the Mixed Doubles teams were showing off their skills...  Well some of them were????  The day started out with some of the teams that signed up who couldn't make it and then some filled in for others...  But we got it all straight and we played nine games.  At least we were inside and not outside in the cool fresh air... That is one of the perks of playing pool - always out of the weather.   One of the comments one of our lady players said before we even drew for partners "I'm not even going to make the paper today"  which she was referring to Bits & Pieces... Guess you were wrong Lynn as you did make the news.    We also talked about the Super Bowl and they decided to go ahead with our weekly Mixed Doubles because the Super Bowl will be on later in the day and the pool playing would be done by the time the Super Bowl starts...

We had ten teams today with each team playing nine games... Two teams won seven games and they are Bev McEnaney & Paul Kelleher and team Arja Titto & Lorne Evans...  Team Lynn LaFarve & Bob Nance won six games.  Team Barb Utech & Butch Brooker won five games.

It was a fun Sunday afternoon and playing pool kept us out of our lazy boys...  The sign-up sheet is up for next Sunday, February 13th. start time is 1:00 -- come to join in on a fun time....   PHB Bev McEnaney

Bring $.30 cents and play three games of shuffleboard.  All teams and courts are chosen by random draw.  We have around twenty players or more each day and we can accommodate up to 40. Regular shuffleboard is a game of strategies as well as how accurate you can shoot to thwart your competitor. It is lots of fun and you meet new friends, get your Vitamin D and a little exercise. Don’t stay inside, get out and go to the shuffleboard courts for some fun and fresh air, you will be so glad you did.

Tuesday NightTrivia

We had 6 teams for trivia Tuesday and that is a high for the season so far. There were quite a few new people and we did indeed have a very good time. Renie was under the weather so Butch filled in and we kept him running. We may even grow a bit for next Tuesday night because some of the people were new and plan to bring more folks with them next week. The more the merrier!

So here we are again....  another Sunday at the pool hall and enjoying the Mixed Doubles games.    We only have about 48 days till the first day of Spring...  I think this awful cool weather has affected our playing ability --- I have to have that excuse..  When I got to the pool hall there was a player there that told me his wife was under the weather and he had called other players and not one could make it...  So the timing just happened to be right and Donna & Elmer H. rode by on their bikes --  there was our player...  Thanks, Donna for filling in, and thanks Elmer for agreeing to let her help us out...  So I am warning you that there are a lot of windows in the pool hall so you cannot get by without being seen...  And now back to business...

We had only 8 teams that played today and we each played seven games.    There was one team that won 6 of the seven played and that was Arja Titto & Butch Brooker...    Two of the teams won 5 of their games and they are Janet Yeley & Alex Stinson and team Barb Brooker and Paul Kelleher and one team won 4 of their games and this was team Bev McEnaney & Greg Donhaniuk..   I might add for what it is worth my partner and I beat the number one team....  go figure....and now to step up and add that we got beat by the team that won the least games.....  again go figure...    Through all of this we had a good time and even had cookies ---  come join in on the fun ---   The sign-up sheet is up for next Sunday...
