Betsie's Bits & Pieces

Thursday 3-10-2022

***Flag Sunday is this Sunday.  I want to let you know that after typing the list of those signed up to carry the flag there are 16 States and only one from Canada caring any province flags.

***Lynn reported at the park meeting that there are 504 people in the park on 280 sites with 85 pets.  The numbers are going down as some people are heading home.

***The Park Party is Friday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  Leslie Blasing will be performing.  If you came to the Pop Up Dance on Tuesday, you will know she is great to listen to.  Serving will be Brats, chips, ice cream sandwich.  Be sure to get your ticket so Stephanie will have a headcount for food.

***Steven May will be the music for the dance Saturday night.  If you were at the Pop Up Dance on Tuesday you heard him perform then too.

***    Last evening  March 9th.  the POOL HALL  banquet was held with happy hour at 4:00 and dinner at 5:00 p.m.   There were 102 in attendance...   Our Busy Bee Quilters prepared a wonderful meal for us and even surprised us with a beautiful appetizer buffet which we all enjoyed.    A group of Pool Hall Babes showed up in the afternoon to prepare the dining room and make it look so welcoming...we were under the supervision of Terry Steinbeck.   THANKS, GIRLS, AND THANKS, TERRY S. -- MANY HANDS MAKE FAST WORK...     50/50  winners were Millie Olson, Bev McEnaney, Lorne Evans & Jason Hull.  A short meeting was held and then the pictures of the groups of players were taken... We appreciate the fun pictures that Candy Dewey took and shared on Facebook... Thanks, Candy!

Thanks to everyone that helped make this a success and supported this event...

Pool hall reboot

I am going to try this again regarding our mixed Doubles pool tournament.  For reasons unknown the first report did not send correctly ---  so bear with me --  here I go again ...  Each team played 10 games --  here is how it went...

Team winning   8 games were Bev McEnaney & Greg Dowhaniuk

Team winning   7 games were Barb Utech  & Butch Brooker

Teams winning 6 games were Janet Yeley & Terry Steinbeck,    Barb Jacobson & Lonnie Hull

Teams winning 5 games were Barb Brooker & Don Wulf,     Sally Kelleher & Jake Jacobson,   Lola Wulf & Don Riley, Gayle Steinbeck & Kinley Paulsen

I forgot to mention that the Pool Hall Babes have a famous jockey.    Mikie Patrick entered the horse races on Friday the 4th, of March.    She named her horse PASSING WIND....    Her horse was constructed using a pool crutch and decorated with ribbons, and MIkie was all decorated out with her cowboy attire...  Mikie and Passing Wind were a great success and we were there to cheer her on to victory - even tho two more steps would have made Mikie & Passing Wind a big winner....  Another fun time....  Thanks, Mikie for joining in the races......

Pool Hall Mixed Doubles Results-Sunday

The time is going fast and soon we will all be headed north for the summer...  Another fun day enjoying our Mixed Doubles pool playing.    As usual, there were many comments made during the playing of the games..."We got lucky,  do we get a prize for the most games lost,    when you break the balls and if you scratch the cue ball,  your opponent has to shoot from the kitchen but the opponent wanted to know if he could shoot from the bedroom,   and today for the first time this year my partner and I won the most games played in this tournament and I was accused of cheating, lucky and the score sheet was fixed...

We also had a PHB celebrating her birthday --  we all signed the back of this week's signup sheet wishing Barb Brooker a happy birthday making this her birthday card.  ....  We also sang her Happy birthday... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BARB !!!

We had a treat today as Janet Yeley brought us some great cookies  Of course they didn't last long... Thanks, Janet.

Interesting photos

Thanks, Dan and Linda Lang. I really enjoyed seeing these old-time photo's so thought I would share.

Some VERY Interesting Photos

1 The 'Tier Avto', the 1930's version of a GPS. Developed by Touring Club Italiano, this device was more like a “map guidance tool and came with a set of paper maps It was tethered to the car’s speedometer that kept the scrolling of the map in proportion to the speed of the car.

2 A 'Tasmanian tiger' in captivity circa 1930. Also known as the thylacine, this carnivorous marsupial was native to the Australian mainland and went extinct in 1936.

3 Airline reservations before computers, 1945

4 The 1950s '3-in-1 Kitchen Combination.' It came with a stove, a sink, and a fridge - all in one!

The photograph was taken in Delhi during 'The Durbar,' a celebration of the British monarch Edward VII’s (the great-grandfather of the current British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II) succession as the Emperor of India.

The designer believed that, in case of a collision, the engine compartment would take most of the brunt and leave the passengers safe. Its standout features included a two-piece engine and cab, along with a driver turret. Unfortunately, only one Sir Vival was ever made, and it remains in the care of Bellingham Auto Sales in Bellingham, Massachusetts, even today!

Trivia News

We had three enthusiastic trivia teams last night. We were missing some regulars who perhaps celebrated too much at the Mardi Gras celebration that preceded us.😉 The scores are usually quite close and that was true last night as well with the winning team winning by 6 points and that team was "3 is Company".

We will not be having trivia on March 8th because Trophy has been gifted with some unexpected but very entertaining entertainment. Be sure to look for more info on this from the activity office.

We will resume our trivia on Tuesday, March 15 in the main hall at 6:30.

I very much enjoy asking the trivia questions and watching the comradery between the teams. We all have a good time.
