 Bits & Pieces

Thursday 10-29-2020

While I appreciate the get well card  I do not have covid now or ever (so far).  Thanks to all the well-wishers but there has been a mistake  I don't have covid.

Thanks,

 Mark Trimm

From the park meeting on Tuesday Lynn reported: There are 144 people in the park on 85 sites with 31 pets. The numbers are starting to grow. She mentioned the renovation in the chapel. The seats have been recovered, new paint and new carpeting have been put down. Check it out when you get to Trophy.

The hall has been set up for use with social distancing. Fewer tables and fewer chairs. Church will begin in the hall on November 8th. The chairs are also set up for social distancing.

They are asking for you to self-quarantine for 10 days when you get to the park.

The Activities Office has a new pet. Stephanie got a pet for the office as a birthday gift from Lynn and Jason, “A pretty fish”.

I got good news from my Dr. on Wednesday!! I will be able to head to Trophy in a couple of weeks. I'm so excited.  Time to pack.....

Stay Safe and Stay Healthy!!

Winters Blue Light

Winter's Blue Light

 by Barbara Brooker

Bare-naked trees and the blue light of Winter,

Settle into old bones with the pain of a splinter,

Take me away, where warm breezes flow,

We don't need reminding, it is time to go.

An Iowa Child

Trophy Garden has a fair amount of Iowa Children. I thought they might like this poem.

Iowa Child
by Sarah Hall Maney

I am an Iowa child
Part and product of the land on which I grew
Flat and open and straight, like
the farm roads that bordered the corn
Friendly and receptive, like the rich,
black soil that grows the corn
Simple, and plain, but productive,
Like the fields of soybeans and hay

Yes, I am an Iowa child
There have been times when
I have kept it hidden
Pretending somewhere, something, someone else
But today I stand with it
Drawing upon the strength of it -
Acknowledging the unique gifts
I share with it

Of course, an Iowa child has not many
deep, intriguing forests within -
Not many clear, refreshing lakes to draw upon
No lofty, grand mountain peaks to soar from
No yawning canyons to descend -

And I know my Iowa child must live
And come to terms with the part of me
That is controlled, precise, yearning
to be perfect -
Like the squared-off, ruler-straight rows
of hybrid seed corn

Perhaps I will never be
as exciting, as spontaneous,
as a tumbling Colorado mountain stream
As magnificent as a
crashing California ocean wave
As serene and stately as a Minnesota pine tree

But no matter
I am who I am
An Iowa child
And that is enough

What the ???? (update)

(Update) I once again must apologize. I am able to post on 3 different blogs, this one, the one connected to the park we were in for many years, and my personal blog highlighting our activities since 2002. And when I prepare a post and hit the publish button I should make note of which blog I am working on. This post was one of those occasions when I failed to do so. So it is out of context and may not make a lick of sense to you. It was meant for www.brooker3.blogspot.com

So they called yesterday to tell us the moho was ready for pick up. It was forecast to be a low of 20 degrees last night so we viewed the message with mixed feelings but decided to go get it so we were in control of what happens to it. After all who knows it better than we do having lived in it full time for 10 years and half time for 6 years. It looks great with its new topside. But...

The furnace wasn't working. We thought it started to work but we were wrong because it was not working this morning. Semi panic set in. Decisions had to be made. Butch worked on it for several hours before deciding we had no other choice than to winterize it. So the process began. Now those of you who do this annually have acquired a routine for it. We winterized our first RV once and vowed we would never do it again and haven't until now.

We toyed with the idea of just taking off for southern climes but the prospect of loading it up for our trek south was no more appealing in 20-degree weather than winterizing. So we winterized. The weather is supposed to improve next Friday with a high of 50 degrees. Now sounding absolutely balmy! So that will be our target date for getting moved into with all the things we need for the winter in Texas.

So bad news is we need to get the furnace working and/or repaired asap. The good news is every nook and cranny will be getting a thorough cleaning. In the winterization process, every cabinet and drawer must be scoured for items that might freeze and break. I have been looking at long-forgotten items in the far recesses of the motorhome. It is a perfect time to reassess each and every item to see if it is worthy of the space it takes to haul it around. Now doesn't that sound like fun?

More later...I am tired

Another former resident passes away Sunday. Connie(Loren) Law.  Cards for her family can be sent to Linda Law at 518 Tiger Blvd.  Bentonville, Ark. 72712 Connie was Randy Williamson's aunt.

When someone passes away, I mark it in my directories. Finding Connie was a walk back through several directories of the past. I looked at the pictures in 1995-1996 to find her. There were so many faces and names to see. What fun!!

I have Coke and Charles Fellinstein's address to pass along to you. Be sure to mark it in your directories. 15325 S. Lone Elm Rd., Apt 212, Olathe, KS 66061

It's been 2 months since Howard suffered his brain bleed.  He put up a good fight but couldn't overcome pneumonia.  We want to Thank the Trophy family for the support you showed us with prayers, cards, and kind words.  Howard enjoyed 17 winters at Trophy making many wonderful friends. The Koehoorns Sue, Pam, Kaye, Jeff and Lisa

Bev McEnaney's nephew, Tim Cummings - age 54 had a bad stroke and had brain surgery to remove one of the clots.  He is not able to speak clearly and walking is not an option and has another clot????  Please help with more prayers. Spin the Prayer Wheel for Tim!!

Safe travels to those heading South.

If anyone knows these people, could you email them and have them let me know their corrected email address. I keep getting their Bits & Pieces back. mkmans@gpcom.net Roger & Kay Mans This is the address that I have right now, but it is incorrect.

Carol MacDonald, a past member of the Trophy family, wrote to me about her quilting. Soon I will have to get rid of all the quilting fabric that I just didn't get to finish. Anyone heading to Texas and will be driving anywhere near Hwy 44 in W. St Louis county give me a call and I will send pictures of the two patterns (and all needed fabric) to Trophy with you. I should not have said I didn't finish as I didn't even start them! If you are able to get these things from Carol: Call Carol 314-221-0660    We are about 2 minutes from the intersection of 44 and 141. Thanks for your help.
