Tamales on Christmas Eve
“It's a tradition, it's a Mexican tradition for many years that when you have a gathering, Christmas Eve y'all get together and eat tamales.” It is a tradition that is believed to have started many centuries ago among the Aztecs.
Photographer Candy Dewey took these pictures on Christmas Eve at the HEB Plus store.
Masa, meat and corn husks are what is needed to put them together.

A note from Eileen Menke: Just got out of the Hospital Saturday the 21st. So good to be home. I had a flair up in the bile duct. seems even if you don't have a gall bladder you can still form stones Dr. called it slush and they had to make a cut in the duct so everything can get out. Not a fun procedure. I was in the hospital for 5 days so it is so good to be home. I am still weak but I am trying to walk our long hall 3 times a day to build up my strength. I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all that remember me. The quilters and Pastor remember you. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!!
The Candlelight service was beautiful and the food following was great. It was a great night leading into Christmas Day. There were 185 people at the Candle Light service. The dinner in the hall was so good. There were lots of friends there to enjoy the food and friendships.
***LOST: Coke left her black water cup with a black State Farm Coozie with a black handle on it at the hall after dinner. If you see or have it call her at 956-566-1315.

Tickets are sold in the Activities Office for $5.00. ***Speeding is becoming a problem again. If you start earlier, you wouldn't have to speed.
JD reported that there are reservations for 702 people when everyone else gets here. He said he is working on projects for next year.
Marsha Schmidt reported for the 1st Responders: Be sure to call the responders first as the 911 will keep you on the phone until they arrive. The responders can be there in a few seconds if called first. Be sure your medications you take are up to date. The ambulance people need to take your red envelope with them. The yellow sheet is for your pet. Be sure to fill it out so someone will know what to do with them if something happens to you.
Russell Crop said Le Roy is here to help with the Pizza Party on Friday night. Be sure to sign up on the kitchen board if you are going.

Rumor Mill Shutdown
Fiction: " I am not going to have my picture taken for the online directory because I do not want my picture on Facebook."
Truth: The Online Directory currently being put together has nothing to do with Facebook and pictures that were taken for this directory will not be on Facebook now or in the future. The directory will only be visible to Trophy Gardens people. A paper directory is planned for the future with the info taken from this online directory and it will be at a very reasonable price.
I am taking photos for this private directory every Tuesday after the meeting. I can take them at other times and other locations as well. You can leave a message for me at the activity office or talk to me on Tuesdays.

Quilting at Trophy Gardens
As we become more acquainted with just some of the activities that Trophy Gardens offers I thought it would be fun to check in with the various quilting activities that go on in this park. Yesterday I stopped in at one of the sewing rooms/meeting rooms and the quilters were talking about a quilt that they are going to raffle off and I believe the proceeds will go toward a new sewing building. At this point I don't have the details but when I get them will be sure to post them here
This park has a longarm quilting machine and that is certainly one thing that made my ears perk up when we were park shopping. They also have quilting groups and quilting classes. In addition the Rio Grande Valley Quilting Group (hopefully that is close to the official name) meets here. They were here last Saturday morning and it appeared to be a large group. This is the group that puts on the big quilt show out on South Padre Island. As it gets closer to the show I know there will be ample information available as to dates and time.
This is a picture of some of the quilters gathered together yesterday discussing the raffle quilt when I stopped in with my camera.

Razz Ma Tazz
As first-year residents of Trophy Gardens we are discovering more and more to like about this park and tonight was no exception. We were entertained for just more than 45 minutes by the premier show choir in the valley, Razz Ma Tazz from the James Nikki Rowe High School over in McAllen. I counted 20 but there may have been one or two more. They were in constant motion and I had a hard time keeping track of how many there were. They did an outstanding job of singing and dancing and filled the hall with wonderful upbeat Christmas music. I couldn't help but admire their enthusiasm and their obvious musical talent and it's also pretty obvious they have some very good directors. Here are just a few of the many photos I took tonight.

Seventeen hardy souls showed up in the cold, clear, windless evening Wednesday, December 11th to play Hoss Collar. The moon was full and absolutely beautiful and a few weird things happened. Dan Lang came in First with his devilish 666 points, Gary DeRosier won Second with 616 points and Linda Lang won Third with 555 points. Linda, once again, was a “victim” of several vanishing “washers”, that occurred between games, and once again they were found in her coat pockets. Does anyone know how this happens? It can be very embarrassing getting old! See you next Wednesday, December 18th at 6:15PM, bring a ONE DOLLAR BILL and please pray for warmer weather. Dan and Linda Lang
This is Stephanie from activities.
Could you please post that Tuesday night trivia is canceled this week due to other events going on in the hall. It will be on Monday the 23 and Monday the 30th at 6:30 in the main hall. The day is switched for these two weeks due to the holidays.
It seems we have had a bit of a mishap with scheduling. Trivia will have to be canceled on the 16th due to a conflict with the hall. The other two Mondays are A-OK so see you on Monday, December 23rd for Trivia. The clue remains the same. Barb Brooker
Today December 15th. there were ten teams gathered to play in the Mixed Doubles pool tournament. There were nine games played by each team, Two teams tied for first place each team won seven games. The Christmas Program was putting me in the Christmas mood. I hope it did you too. ****Remember Razz Ma Tazz on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. If you haven't heard these kids sing, you really need to come and see them. They are the cream of the singers and the crop from their school. I look forward to them every year.

Hidalgo Bus Trip
One of the perks of living in any of the Wilder Resorts are the free bus trips that are scheduled when something special comes up. Tonight was one of those trips. We left Trophy Gardens at 5:30 on the Wilder bus and drove over to Hidalgo to visit the Christmas Lighting Display. We have been there before but it was well worth going to see again and the best part was we didn't have to drive, didn't have to worry about finding a place to park and it was also an opportunity for us to meet more Trophy Gardens residents. I think everyone had a good time and the lights were spectacular.
Trophy Trivia night changed
The next three Tuesday nights will not work for trivia (Razzmatazz 17th, Christmas Eve 24th and, New Year's Eve 31st) so we will be having trivia on Monday nights at 6:30 PM in the main hall on those three nights. Spread the word among your trivia playing friends so they do not miss even one night. Last week I promised a clue to one of the questions. You can find one of the answers here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Jamestown,_Virginia_(1607%E2%80%931699)
Been wondering how trivia works and why? The secret is in the format. The game is made up of 4 rounds of 5 questions each. The questions are general knowledge questions of various categories. The host will tell you the categories before each round of play. You work as a team to come up with an answer.
When the host reads each question your team will be given 3 minutes to come up with the answer and decide on a point value of 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 points. The last round is a double down round. Each point value can only be used once for each round. You cross it off on your worksheet as they are used. If you have great confidence in your answer you would assign a bigger number with the opposite also being true.
Please do not have your cell phones or other internet devices on your table. Do not shout out answers. Music will be played while teams are deciding on an answer masking the talk from table to table.
The goal is to have fun!

Thomas D Johnson Obituary
Thomas D Johnson of Burnsville, Minnesota | 1937 - 2019 | Obituary
( November 01, 1937 - August 20, 2019 )
Thomas "Tom" Johnson passed away on August 20, 2019. He was born November 1, 1937, in his family home in Hibbing, MN. The baby of the family, his sister, Nancy, and brother Richard "Dick", looked out for him. Perfectly imperfect, Tom overcame many trials and tribulations in life. Formerly married to Mary Lou Patka, he developed more meaningful relationships with his two children, Laura and Eric, later in life. He was the best-ever grandfather to Timothy, Alyssa, Jacob "GT", and Jenna. He has many nieces and nephews who remember his infectious laugh and constant joking. He loved to feed people and when he cooked, it was always "ton-age". Family and friends gathered for a celebration of life on August 10, 2019, while Tom was still with us. There will be no other arrangements. Tom will be buried at Hibbing Park/Maple Hill Cemetery in the Johnson family plot. Deck us all with boston-charlie, swaller dollar cauliflower hulla-ba-loo. Nora’s sleeping on the trolley, jump back slap-jack, hulla-bah-loo. Chicken fat sally jump back in the alley, gum-a-moe. Translation: You will be missed, Pop-n-Fresh!

You are met by the welcoming greeters who can help you find your way around the resort. And if you have a Trophy Gardens sticker on your windshield you can give a friendly wave and be on your way.
Even the birds and butterflies are welcome. There are small nature areas on both sides of the street near the entrance.

Ladies Pool
I wandered over to the Billiard Hall this afternoon and took a few photos of some of the women who show up on Monday and Tuesday afternoon to shoot pool. They all look like they are having fun so maybe one of these times I will take my pool cue instead of my camera.
